Weather & Best Time to Visit Da Nang
Da Nang is warm year-round, but it experiences two distinct seasons:
-
Dry season (February to August): The best time to visit. Days are usually sunny and hot, My Khe’s waters are crystal clear, and Ba Na Hills sees clearer skies. Peak domestic travel happens between June and August.
-
Rainy season (September to January): Marked by frequent downpours and rough seas, with October and November carrying the highest risk of heavy rains or tropical storms along the central coast.
We spent September here and it rained almost daily, sometimes washing out entire days.

| Day 1 | Son Tra, Coast & Dragon | Son Tra Peninsula & Lady Buddha | Relax at My Khe Beach / An Thuong | Son Tra Night Market & Dragon Bridge |
| Day 2 | Sacred Caves & Hoi An | Morning swim + Marble Mountains | Transfer to Hoi An & lantern workshop | Lantern-lit evening & Hoai River boat ride |

Day 1: Son Tra Peninsula, the Beach, and the Dragon Bridge
Morning: Son Tra Peninsula, Pagoda, and Lady Buddha
Start early and head toward the Son Tra Peninsula, the lush green mountain hugging Da Nang Bay. Here you will find Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda, an active sanctuary maintained by resident monks and the local community. The complex features golden accents and dragon sculptures, along with sweeping views across the bay. The centerpiece is the 67-meter-tall Lady Buddha (Quan Am) statue, gazing out over the city; the surrounding pagoda grounds and gardens are equally worth a stroll.

Basing yourself in the An Thuong neighborhood makes it effortless to walk down to My Khe Beach, one of the longest urban beaches in Asia.
Expect soft golden sand and warm waters fringed by palms, framed by distant mountains and Lady Buddha watching over the bay. You can rent sun loungers with thatched umbrellas, grab fresh young coconuts, or get an oceanside massage. Just one block inland lies a lively neighborhood packed with local eateries, international spots, fruit juice bars, and boutique shops.
My Khe Beach, Da NangEvening: Son Tra Night Market and the Dragon Bridge Show
As dusk settles, make your way toward the Dragon Bridge (Cau Rong). Just steps away, the Son Tra Night Market comes alive with grilled seafood skewers, vegetarian bites, and fresh fruit smoothies. It is an easy wander, with stalls selling local souvenirs, Vietnamese coffee, handmade crafts, and clothing. While weekends (Friday through Sunday) are best for catching the bridge show, keep in mind the market gets noticeably busier, especially during the summer peak (June to August).
-
The highlight: If your visit falls on a Saturday or Sunday at 9:00 PM, traffic stops entirely for the famous show where the dragon head breathes fire and water. Arrive around 20 minutes early to snag a good viewing spot along the Han River waterfront. You can even stand right underneath the water blast if you do not mind getting soaked.

Day 2: Marble Mountains and the Magic of Hoi An
Morning: Morning Swim and the Marble Mountains
Mornings are hands down the best time to enjoy My Khe Beach: fewer crowds, calm, clear water, and the perfect start to the day. Tip: The earlier you go, the gentler the sun. During peak season, UV levels get intense by 10:30 AM. If you are an early riser, catching the sunrise over My Khe is well worth the alarm.
After a solid brunch, make your way toward the Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son). This cluster of five limestone hills hides deep caves transformed into Buddhist and Hindu sanctuaries steeped in history and folklore.
- Top pick: Huyen Khong Cave, where natural skylights pierce the rocky ceiling to illuminate centuries-old altars with beams of sunlight. Exploring the full complex takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.

After lunch, hail a Grab or hop in a taxi to historic Hoi An (just a 45-minute drive from Da Nang).
- Wander the Ancient Town: Stroll among yellow-hued facades showcasing a unique blend of Chinese, Japanese, and French merchant architecture, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Lantern Making Workshop: A rewarding hands-on cultural activity in Hoi An’s old town. In about an hour, local artisans teach you how to bend the bamboo frame and stretch traditional silk over it, leaving you with your own handmade souvenir to take home.
- Dusk and Wishing Lanterns on the Hoai River: Come nightfall, the town transforms under the soft glow of thousands of hanging silk lanterns. You can take a short wooden boat ride and make a wish as you release a floating candle onto the river.
💡 Bonus idea in Hoi An: If you have extra time in the afternoon, book a local cooking class to learn how to prepare Cao Lau and other regional specialties, or visit one of Hoi An’s famous tailor shops, renowned for crafting custom suits and dresses within 24 hours.

Morning: Heading Up to Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge
A signature Da Nang experience is Ba Na Hills, a mountaintop resort sitting 1,500 meters above sea level. It is reached via one of the world’s longest single-cable car systems, gliding above dense rainforest and rushing waterfalls. We strongly recommend going early to beat the tour groups and dodge the afternoon fog during shoulder seasons.
What to See at Ba Na Hills:
- The icon: The Golden Bridge, held aloft by two monumental moss-weathered stone hands.
- French Village and Moon Castle: A recreation of a medieval European village complete with cobbled alleys, spires, and central squares, along with a sprawling international lunch buffet often bundled with your ticket.
- Fantasy Park: An indoor theme park featuring arcade classics, drop towers, 5D simulators, and themed zones inspired by Jules Verne adventures.
- You will also find an Alpine Coaster, letting you navigate gravity-driven toboggans winding down the forested slopes.
- Pro tip: Leave Da Nang by 7:00 AM to board the cable car around 8:00 AM. This gives you a clear window to walk the bridge before big tour groups arrive.
- Note: Always check the mountain forecast the afternoon before; heavy rains or dense fog can drop visibility to near zero.

Back down in downtown Da Nang, explore the markets for regional coffee, snacks, or lightweight clothes:
- Han Market (Chợ Hàn): The go-to spot for souvenirs, roasted Robusta coffee beans, dried tropical fruits, and custom tailoring at fair prices. Because it is enclosed and faces the riverfront promenade, it is an easy stop during a riverside walk.
- Con Market (Chợ Cồn): A gritty, authentic food hall that is far less touristy. The bustling food court serves up regional staples like Mì Quảng (flat rice noodles in a rich, savory turmeric broth topped with pork, shrimp, peanuts, and fresh herbs) and Bánh Xèo (crispy turmeric rice crepes packed with bean sprouts and pork) at everyday street prices.
- Afternoon Cafe Break: Just a few blocks away, cozy modern cafes and heritage shopfronts serve classic Vietnamese egg coffee (and egg chocolate), paired with fresh pastries in a relaxed atmosphere.

For your final evening, pick whichever vibe matches your travel style:
- Option A (Relaxed by the Waves): Book an outdoor table at a beachfront restaurant or casual beach club along My Khe. Many feature live acoustic sets or DJs right by the sand.
- Option B (Bustling Street Food): Head to Helio Night Market, a vibrant open-air complex with hundreds of food stalls and live music. Alternatively, seek out a local joint: if you see miniature plastic stools spilling onto the sidewalk and locals digging in, you are in the right place.
